We also began looking at models of different structures built to prepare us for tomorrow when we start planning our own structures.
Art: we painted our bonhomme de neige white!
FLA: we continued our work on the *eu sound and wrote silly sentences based on teacher model. Students used dictionary to find various words with the *eu sound in them and shared them with the class. Students read independently and we had 3 read alouds.
Science: we continue working on animal adaptations, and today went through feathers and why birds have them.
We only have 1 volunteer so far for skating - if you can volunteer from 10:40-11:25am on Monday please let me know!

FLA: we continued our work on the sound *oi, and brainstormed all the words we could think of that had the our magic sound in them. Students completed a flip book with four words and pitcures of them. Asher presented his star of the week poster and students asked questions about his photos.
Science: we did a sort of different animals where students tried to sort them.We then sorted them into two categories: wild and domestic animals. Students then chose three wild animals and three domestic animals to draw.
Math: we worked on representing the number 12. Students are doing great with coming up with addition and subtraction equations! We learned anew game: Roll & subtract, where students rolled 3 dice and figured out the answer to their equation. Students played math centres.

Asher is the star of the week!
Today in class:
FLA: we learned about the new sound *oi and did a few activities with words that contain that sound, including a poem. Social studies: we finished our learning about urban communities and talked about our last type of community: suburban. Students brainstormed different things, people, places and animals they see in suburban communities.
Math: students completed their problem solving problem where they worked on grouping 21 students into various different groups. Students also worked on finding different equations that equal 15.
Students had music and gym today with Madame Zdrill, M. Trevor and Madame Emily.

Today in class:
Math: we worked on subtraction using manipulatives and number lines - students hopped like frogs down the number line to complete their equations. We began our work on 3D figures and made our first figure, the cube, using marshmallows and toothpicks. We also used white boards to represent the number 11 using mathematical sentences.
FLA: we continued our work on the *ch sound, where students played a card game and created sentences using sentence starter cards and CH cards. We read a book called "Les Manchots Marabout" about a complaining penguin and students made some great predictions and we learned new words! Brielle presented her mystery object and students asked her questions using great French vocabulary.
Art: students worked with Asher's mom, Melanie, to make watercolour sky art!

FLA: we continued our work on the *ch sound. We brainstormed words that have the *ch sound in them and completed a flip book with four words we came up with. We also looked at commonly used sentence starters in French and create funny sentences with them. Brielle shared her Star of the Week posters and students asked her questions.
Social Studies: Students learned all about rural communities and the people, things, animals and places that are within rural communities.
Math: Students worked on new math centres. We finished off work on our 2D shapes by building them with marshmallows and toothpicks :)
Please send in any extra newspaper that you have and are not using for a project we are doing next week. Thanks!

We also discussed how different it would be to live without one of our senses and different ways people adapt their lives to living without a sense.
Math: we started problem solving - each student worked using different manipulatives to solve a problem that had multiple answers using addition. Today students also created shape animals and described them using their French shapes names.
Art: students drew out an object onto watercolour paper using pencils, then erased it and traced over it using crayons. They then used watercolours to paint over their drawings.

Science: we went for a walk inside the school to use our sense of hearing to find all the different things we could hear throughout the school. Students drew a picture and wrote a sentence for what they heard. We also continued to work on our 5 senses Christmas book.
Math: we continue to work on ones and tens by practicing counting the day we've been at school. We began working on our "The answer is ___. What is the question?" Students had to brainstorm any equations they could think of to get them the answer of 5.
Gym: we began gymnastics - just a reminder:

Today, we read the story North Pole Ninjas: Christmas Mission!, about secret Christmas ninjas who work for Santa Claus and go around doing random acts of kindness for those in need. The ninjas are run by the Christmas Sensei, who reports their good deeds back to Santa Claus. The Christmas Sensei showed up in our class this afternoon and our mission was to complete a random act of kindness in the school. As a class we decided to write notes to every class in the school, writing them a kind note!

FLA: We learned about our new letter, Ww. The action is looking around, searching for the missing goose while repeating "wwww". Students practiced writing uppercase and lowercase W's and then brainstormed words that started with the w sound.
Math: Students created word and picture Christmas patterns.
Gym: Students continued to work on stick-handling in hockey.
Health: We had Constable Steve in for a visit. He read the students "Odd Velvet", a story about a little girl who was different than everyone else. Even though she was different, she had a lot of different strengths to make her a fantastic person and friend. Students brainstormed what they thought their strengths were and wrote them on a star to show to the class and we talked about how being different is a good thing and we need to share and respect our differences.
There is no winter celebration this year before Christmas, however we do have two days of caroling which you are welcome to come for - December 18th at 10am and 19th at 1pm :).
